Have you ever felt proud of what you accomplished or had an impact on you? Have you ever made a commitment to something that has helped you grow as a person? Last weekend I had that opportunity and took advantage of it.
The Keystone and Torch Clubs of Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan got together and helped at Gleaners Food Bank in Detroit on October third. This opportunity enabled me to help out in my community. We helped pack distribution boxes for those less fortunate then us. We ended up moving 11,500 pounds of food for the food bank. This was one of those moments I realized I can help make a difference for the better. It truly was a wonderful experience I’m proud to have helped with.
At times, we take what we have for granted. We don’t stop to think about the ones that are less fortunate than us. When organizing the boxes of food, which went to families that may not have the financial support, all I could think of was how happy I was to be doing this. Yes, it took time to do but I didn’t mind. It is not everyday that I’m able to make such a big impact in my life or someone else's. I knew what I was doing was helping others. I helped other families get what I and many of the members of the Boys and Girls Club already have.
