Each year one boy or girl is named National Youth of the Year. The program recognizes service to Club and community, school performance, and contributions to family and spiritual life. And it all starts at a Club like yours:
- In the Club: Each participating Club selects a Youth of the Year, who receives a certificate and medallion then enters state competition.
- State Your Case: State winners get a plaque and $1,000 scholarship and advance to BGCA’s Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest and Pacific regional competitions.
- Regionals: Each of five regional winners receive a $10,000 scholarship and enter national competition in Washington, D.C.
- Final Five: Lastly, one National Youth of the Year is chosen from five finalists. She or he receives an additional $15,000 scholarship. Oh, and did we mention they're installed by the President ... of the United States?! Cuz they are!
Open to Club members age 14 to 18, this year-round program can help young people develop the necessary skills to be a successful Youth of the Year candidate and -- most importantly --productive adults. Past winners have gone on to graduate school, the Peace Corps and other worthy endeavors.
