Picking a College Major
Are you feeling anxious about choosing a college major? Dont' be -- most four-year schools don’t require you to declare a major until the end of your second year. Taking time to figure out what interests you will help you pick the right school and help you make the most of your education when you get there.
Career Path. If know what you want to be when you grow up, your college major should help you get there. There are majors and classes that will be mandatory if you want to be a teacher, engineer, nurse or accountant. If you don’t know what you want to do, exploring different majors will help you discover jobs you didn’t know existed.
Your Interests. If you love athletics, you may want to major in sports science. There is a degree out there for everyone. Major in something that will keep you fascinated for a long time – at least the four years of school, but hopefully into a career and beyond.
Be Real. You may be a gifted artist but hate the idea of being a starving artist. You may love the idea of being a doctor, but not like to study chemistry.
Research. Check out college websites to see what majors are offered and what classes you would take. Make sure the classes look interesting to you – it will be a long four years if they’re not.
