Be The Best Student Possible in 2009

This is a public service announcement: This is a fake photo caption for placement only.

Want to improve your grades this semester? It’s totally doable. After all, good grades aren’t just about being the smartest person in the room. School success is also about showing up, paying attention and doing the work – in class and at home. Use some or all of the tips below to help you be the best student possible in 2009!
  1. Pay attention. Listen and process the lesson being presented to you. Taking notes will reinforce what your brain is already hearing.
  2. Go to class. Just showing up for class improves performance and demonstrates commitment to what you’re studying
  3. Be accountable. If you’re not doing well, do a self-evaluation. Talk with your parents and guidance counselor about your class choices. Revise your curriculum as needed to raise your grades and choose classes that match your interests.
  4. Ask questions. When you don't understand something, ask. Your brain learns faster if questions are answered the instant they occur.
  5. Review before class. Review what was discussed the day before each day before class. Jump-starting your brain can help you better retain new material.
  6. Test prep. Start studying a week before your test. Review study material and complete review worksheets.
  7. Extra help. Some classes are harder than others. If you need extra help, ask your teacher, seek out a tutor or find a classmate
  8. Find your focus. Is your mind sharpest in the morning or at night? Figure out what time of day is best for you to do school work. Then make it part of your routine to do your homework and study at that time every day.
  9. Set reasonable goals. Come up with small, realistic goals. If you find algebra wicked hard, strive to get a C rather than giving up and flunking.
