  • Clubs from San Antonio and Indiana are taking part in an underwater exploration
  • The JASON National Argonaut program takes teens on real, live expeditions!
  • Be sure to log on and ask questions from live events on Oct. 24 and 28th!

Have you ever been intrigued by the high seas and the deep waters of the ocean? Well, apparently several of our Club members from across the country have been and you can log on live to see some of their adventures as they take on some truly deep waters and explore the mysteries of the sea.

The JASON National Argonaut program connects students with scientists and researchers for real (or near-real time) scientific experiences around the sea. This year, two different Boys & Girls Clubs were chosen to be a part of the exploration program. The educators and Club members are: Lucinda Reese, educator, of Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County, South Bend, Indiana and her students TaShawn R. (16) and Devyn J. (14). Romeo Cruz, educator, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Antonio and his students Hilary R. (15) and Jacob Z. (15) are also particpating.

Members and their advisors underwent a boot camp during the summer and did exploration around the coast of Connecticut to prepare for more underwater exploration this fall! To read all about their summer experiences and to see what they are up to now aboard the Nautilus, click here!

To watch them in action, be sure to click this link and tune into the live Argonaut event on Monday (Oct. 24) at 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. EDT. This event will feature Romeo Cruz and his Club members Hilary and Jacob of BGCs of San Antonio. They will be answering questions about their experience during the live 20-minute webcasts. A second live event will take place on Friday (Oct. 28th) at 1:30 and 6:30 p.m. EDT as well featuring chief scientist Dr. Robert Ballard as he explores off the coast of Italy!
