Atlanta is No Place for Hate!

By Tavari T., myclubmylife.com Teen Reporter, BGC of Metro Atlanta

ATLANTA -- On Jan. 16, the newly-formed 10-member Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta Youth Advisory Council attended the Anti Defamation League's "No Place for Hate" Student Leadership Summit at the Woodruff Arts Center just across from BGCA's National Headquarters.

This summit taught our group methods on peaceful resolution of issues and how to recognize hate and take action against it. The entire Youth Advisory Council was separated and participated in sessions that were highly diverse. Throughout the sessions, we participated in thought-provoking discussions that allowed everyone to discuss their feelings on prejudice and hateful acts that occur in our schools.

The Youth Advisory Council was able to join in on these conversations and learned ways in which we can help resolve conflict and help minimize the hate in our schools and Clubs.

LA Harbor's Wall of Dreams!

By Daniella J., myclubmylife.com Teen Reporter, BGC of LA Harbor

LOS ANGELES -- Our Keystone Members Created a MLK Dream Wall. Teens from within the Club were asked to put up their dreams/future goals/ what they would love to see changed in the world today. Several groups from the Club submitted original artwork to be displayed, including the middle school arts program and the Urban Arts/Brotherhood group. They actually burned corners of the paper to give it an old look.

The wall will remain up in honor of Black History Month this is also opened to our pre-teens, elementary kids as well as visiting Clubs. The goal is to reach 100 youth/staff combined. Also, a special open mic was then created for teens/staff to express their feelings in regards to their dreams.
