2008 Beijing Olympics Trip

2008 Beijing Olympics Trip

(Portia M. of Atlanta and several other teens from the area were part of a cultural exchange in Beijing, China, for the 2008 Summer Olympics. As part of the 66-country youth art exhibition Peace, Friendship, and Goodwill through the Olympic Spirit, Portia kept a journal of the many exciting events the group participated in. Read more from a behind-the-scenes look as Beijing welcomed the world to its doorstep.)

My Olympic Journal
  • Day One. This was my first time going to the airport and I was kind of scared. I'm so excited about the Beijing experience. I've learned a few words from the Chinese language to help me: Excuse me -- Dua-boo-chi; Good morning -- zon show how; and How much -- toy shou.
  • Day Two. When we arrived in Beijing, we went to an art exhibit. The artwork was really nice. We also gave gifts to victims of the recent earthquake that happened in China. It was so sad to see one girl who could barely walk. But she still had a smile on her face. Things like that make me appreciate my life even more.
  • Day Three. We left early and went to the Forbidden City and other sites around the city.
