Healthy Fright Night!
Don't let Halloween be one sugar-filled nightmare! Here are some healthy treats to satisfy all ghouls and goblins!
Tiffani Ponder, BGCA
  • Halloween is filled with frights but also normally with unhealthy amounts of sugar
  • This year consider treats such as juice boxes, apple snack packs and raisins!
  • These nutritious treats will make it a safe, healthy Halloween!

A Healthy and Happy Halloween

For teens and kids, Halloween is usually all about costumes and overindulging in mounds of sweet treats! Ghosts, goblins, villains and heroes all hit the streets to collect as many sugary treats as possible. Chocolate bars, marshmallow treats, candied apples, candy corn … and the list goes on and on.

This Halloween, think less high sugar and high fat treats that don’t agree with healthy living. While sweets are an essential part of the holiday, it’s important to not to caught up in a sugar nightmare! Check out these nutritious -- and not so frightening -- alternatives:

  • Snack size package of popcorn
  • Juice boxes
  • Apple sauce snack packs
  • Fruit roll-ups
  • Snack bars
  • Boxes of raisins
  • Raw or roasted nuts (check with parents regarding allergies)
  • Trial-size packs of dried veggie chips
  • Granola/breakfast bars
  • Snack-size bags of crackers
  • Individually wrapped pumpkin seed treats
  • Sugar-free gum
  • Sugar-free candy

 Have a happy, healthy Halloween!
