In the second of our spotlights of last year's DAF winners, talented singer/composer Jose S. has ambition to be the best!
Jose first came to the Boys & Girls Clubs as a sophomore in high school and has been participating in the Club Tech program for two years. Drawn to the Club’s high-tech music studio, Jose saw it as a safe, positive place for him to hone his music skills.
"I’ve learned how to use industry standard equipment and become very familiar with the technology," says Jose. "While working on different projects, I have also learned how to be a great team player and work efficiently to meet certain deadlines."
One particular project won him a trip to Denver as a National Club Tech Digital Arts Festivals award recipient. He wrote and produced the song, "Here We Go," over a few days and even performed during the awards ceremony.
"The skills I have learned in Club Tech have influenced my life because I feel like an obligation of mine is to help future Club members the same way I was helped when I first joined the Boys & Girls Club," he says.
Through a partnership with Adobe Youth Voices and the award-winning group Black Eyed Peas, Jose and fellow Club members were also fortunate to have one of their music videos up for an MTV award. "Stand Up for Haiti" was created to raise awareness about the earthquake disaster and viewed by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and several other White House officials.
Jose plans were to attend Foothill Community College this year and pursue a career in audio engineering. Of course he will continue fine-tuning his music career as well.
"I want to be one of the best Latin artists in the music industry."
